Skyler Simpson’s work explores the isolation created by gendered tension in the domestic sphere. Each painting creates unease through cinematic vantage points and incongruous details. The narrative pulls from her Midwestern upbringing and examines the friction in socialized domestic ideals. She received an MFA from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2024. After receiving her BFA from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2018, she worked as a painting intern at Anderson Ranch Arts Center during the summer of 2019. Skyler’s work has been featured in New American Paintings, Booooooom, and she has exhibited in group shows throughout the United States. Her work was selected for the AXA Art Prize Exhibition three years in a row, in 2022, 2023, and 2024. She is currently based in Chicago, IL.
